Frank Mestemacher

Frank Mestemacher began a six year term as a Fire Commissioner for South Whidbey Fire/EMS in January 2016.The Freeland resident is a carpentry instructor at the Seattle Central College Wood Technology Center. This summer, Mestemacher was awarded the college’s 2015 Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Service Award, which goes to instructors who demonstrate leadership and excellence. He has a wealth of experience both as an instructor and from operating his own construction company.

Until a few years ago, he was a member of the South Whidbey Fire/EMS team. He served as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years, rising to the rank of Captain at the Freeland station. Missing his involvement with the department, he sought the seat to be vacated by Mike Helland on the Fire Commission and was elected in November. He’s excited to utilize his leadership skills and particularly eager to support volunteer retention efforts to continue growing a strong core of volunteers.South Whidbey Fire/EMS, has a team of over 60 dedicated volunteers providing fire suppression, emergency medical service, marine, and rope rescue to residents and visitors for over 65 years. In 2015, the department answered a record number of 2,391 calls.
