Why I'm with South Whidbey Fire and Rescue: I have been in the fire service for 20 years. Public safety is my passion. I applied with ICFD#3 when my former employer decided to close the WSU Fire Department down and lay off all employees. This position also allowed me to further advance my career options from a Captain to Deputy Chief, plus return to working with volunteers, who are truly the most selfless and dedicated firefighters one will find.

Why YOU should volunteer: The fire service has traditionally been a large "brotherhood" or family. In the early days of Volunteer Firefighters it was more of a social gathering "club" such as the other club organizations but with a focus on helping citizens. The Club, as it was once known, has disappeared due to many reasons, most prevalent is increased calls and training requirements, but the family atmosphere still thrived.
